Chemotherapy

What is Chemotherapy?

It is a treatment method that uses drugs to destroy tumour cells and cells that have migrated to distant locations.

Chimiothérapie

The choice of drugs is related to the type of tumour. It is based on consensus international protocols.

The treatment is generally administered in a day hospitalization lasting from 2 to 6 hours, depending on the pathology.

Treatment stages of chemotherapy

Include a phase called cure, during which it is administered for 1 to several consecutive days, and phases called inter-cure or rest which last four weeks.
The usual treatment duration is between 4 to 6 months, depending on the pathology. It can be prolonged and/or modified according to the disease's evolution.

1 to 2 days before the session, you will have to do a blood test (Blood Count Formulation (BCF), kidney checkup, and liver function test) and send the results to your doctor via email.
To make sure that your parameters will allow the delivery of the treatment.
If not, another appointment will be scheduled.

Your doctor will greet you and will examine your physical ability to endure the treatment.

What happens during a chemotherapy
session?

Before each chemotherapy cure session, the oncologist must ensure that your health condition and your blood count are suitable for the treatment.

In this case, you will be guided to a room with a comfortable chair.

A perfusion device will be placed either in the implantable chamber or in your vein at the bend of the elbow.

During your installation, the drug cocktail prescribed by the oncologist will be prepared with all the traceability elements guaranteeing the safety of the procedure.

The sessions last between 2 and 6 hours, depending on the pathology.

chimiothérapie

Doses are based on the patient's height, weight, general condition and medical history.

The treatment is administered either by puncture of a vein at the bend of the elbow or by an implantable chamber.

What is an implantable chamber?

It is a device made of a thick silicone membrane covering a small reservoir and connected to a small tube introduced into a large vein below the clavicle.

The installation is performed under local anaesthesia. It is totally painless.

It is kept throughout the entire treatment period.

It offers the opportunity to avoid puncturing a vein at each session.

At the end of your treatment, the doctor removes the implantable chamber.
